School Education

A temporal analysis of India's school education system from 2014-15 to 2024-25 — enrolment trends, gross enrolment ratios, transition and dropout rates, learning outcomes (NAS & PARAKH), school infrastructure, and pupil-teacher ratios across 36 states and union territories.

14.71 lakh schools

24.69 crore students served by 1.01 crore teachers. Government schools account for 68.9% of institutions. Education spending at 4.06% of GDP against NEP target of 6%.

Data from UDISE+ 2024-25 uses a student-wise database with unique IDs (introduced from 2022-23), replacing earlier school-level consolidated reporting. This corrected earlier overestimations. NAS 2021 data reflects pandemic-era impacts on learning. PARAKH 2024 is the first competency-based national assessment under NEP 2020. Andhra Pradesh data for 2014-15 may show anomalies due to state reorganisation.
